Club Summer BBQ

26 Nov

Please remember the Club’s Summer BBQ to be held on Sunday 29th January at Thorndon Park, Paradise between 11:30 am and 2:30 pm.  The advertised $5 returnable deposit has  been waived at this point, but we would like to have some indication whether you intend to show up, for catering purposes. Please respond to this email if you wish to attend or ring Bob Cole on 0429 177 413, we will also call for a show of hands at the General Meeting on Tuesday 24th of this month.

BYO chair, drinks – there is a kiosk at the park selling soft drinks, tea and coffee. There has been some $2m spent on upgrading the playground for the kids, so bring them along too. Look for the Classic Owners Club feathers at the park – plenty of shade offered by the many trees.

Lions Bike Show 2022

9 Nov

The Lions Bike Show, held last Sunday at Macclesfield Oval on a perfect spring day, drew a very large crowd. Last year the event attracted 2000+ bikes, this year there must have been 3000.

There was a club ride which left Hazelwood Park at 9 am, but only about 8 or 9 bikes turned up. We set up at the northern end of the oval next to a huge Kawasaki display, celebrating 50 years of the Z1/Z900 model. Our group of bikes were such a sparse collection of machines, that a group of Harley riders decided to roar through us, no doubt mistaking us for a thoroughfare and were totally ignorant of any pedestrian who dared cross their path. The situation would have been improved if we had our club’s gazebo on hand.  I do recall that we purchased the gazebo for this type of event a few years back after many of our members were seeking shade from the harsh South Australian sun. A few more of our members did turn up, but by then we were swallowed up by the neighbouring  Kawasakis and Harleys amongst others.

Many Adelaide clubs attended: including Norton Owners, BSA Owners Club, Veteran & Vintage, BMW Owners, Vintage Japanese and the BMW Owners. The Kawasaki  Z Owners won the best club display and  the British award was won by the ubiquitous Vincent Rapide.

The most interesting bike I saw was this Yamaha FJR1000 framed Suzuki GT750 with a Triumph Street Triple front & rear ends, part of the VJMC display.

The Lions Bike Show goes from strength to strength every year and organizer Fred Keale and his team must have been delighted with the turnout and the weather.

Festival of Motorcycling 2022

8 Aug

Our club is again heavily involved in the organisation of this year’s festival, which runs for 9 days from October 1st – 9th. The club is hosting 3 events and hopes to see many of our members participate in them.

Club member, Peter Perry, has devised a ‘Painted Silos Tour’ for the opening day – Saturday 1st October. These tour rides are  for those who prefer their motorcycling rides just that little bit longer. There are 2 rides: The Tour Ride 404 kms and the longer Endurance Ride 670 kms.

Day 5 Thursday October 5th, our club is hosting the Barossa Valley ride. A ride leader has been appointed, but we still need volunteers to help marshall the course. The SA Adventure Bike Riders have also arranged a ride, which should appeal to off-road riders, both rides meeting for lunch at the Vine Inn, Nuriootpa.

The final event of the festival on October 8th & 9th is Classics at Hart to be held at Harts Mill, Port Adelaide, which includes a grand display (focusing on Australian made machines, but not excluding other marques), a cavalcade along the northern beaches and a Show ‘n’ Shine, organised by Levis MCC. Members are encouraged to enter their bikes for the display and again, volunteers are called for to help out over the weekend. This is our club’s major event for 2022 and we hope to attract a lot of public interest, as we have done in the past.
