Sunday Ride – 3rd March 2024

5 Mar

Our Sunday ride was in competition with the All British Day at Echunga and the Fringe Festival, so there were only eight riders. Disappointing for the Club, but a very easy group to manage, it is the first time that your reporter can remember, that all the riders kept up for the entire ride! Tony lead us up Greenhill Rd, to Balhannah, then through Woodside, turning right at Springhead Rd, through Mt Torrens to Birdwood, where Tony, surprised us all by going straight across the main Rd onto Cromer Rd. we followed the bitumen to Martin Hill Rd, left on Forreston Rd, right onto Checker Hill Rd, a very scenic ride, right at Kersbrook Rd and on to our morning stop at the Kersbrook Hill Winery, which also serves a Coffee and Cake deal.

Having drunk our coffee and eaten out cake, we set out for Lunch at Lyndoch. Only Tony could have found such an indirect route to our lunch stop! We rode up Hill Rd ….. to avoid boring you with too many lefts and rights, we wound our way back through Birdwood, Springton, Eden Valley turning right to Seven Steps Rd down Mengler’s Hill, through Bethany, where once again Tony, fooled us. Instead of turning left and going to Lyndoch, thinking we were not sufficiently hungry yet, he turned up Gomersal Rd and then Rosedale Rd, finally arriving at Lyndoch and a well deserved lunch.

Our stops are always entertaining swapping stories of rides, bikes we have owned, troubles
overcome and roads travelled. After lunch we set out for home via Cockatoo Valley, and Williamstown, and Kersbrook, with the group gradually splitting up as we got closer to Adelaide.

Our thanks to Tony, for an exceptionally enjoyable ride in perfect weather.

Allan Vaisham.
