Midweek Ride Report, 15th August

21 Aug

Club Ride Tuesday 15th August

10 o’clock saw 11 riders gathered at Hawthorn Crescent ready for our bi-
monthly week day ride, the weather was perfect, blue sky’s, no wind and reasonable
temperature. Bikes ranged from almost new to 1970’s vintage and a surprising near
new Honda CB125 that Mark Howson turned up on. I am sure I was not the only one
to think “Who is he kidding?” but I was to be surprised!
Another surprise was when Tony, our Club Captain, told us we were not going
up Greenhill Road but turning right at the Glynburn Rd roundabout…. Shock! We
then wound our way over Mt Osmond, getting some panoramic views of the City on
our way to Crafers, where we crossed the Freeway and via Auckland Hill Rd to
Clarendon, then via Baker’s Gully Rd to McLaren Flat Bakery for our first stop. I
was not a little surprised that Mark on the CB125 was still with us and we did not
have to wait for him.
If you have not been to McLaren Flat Bakery, recently you will be surprised, it
has been completely redecorated. The talk at the tables was motorbikes, recent rides,
breakdowns, repairs and the strengths and weaknesses of various makes. No surprises
there.
After our stop we headed up Penny’s Hill Rd, after which I got a little
confused, fortunately Tony has amazing knowledge of our roads and he lead us, on
roads that I did not recognise, till we eventually came out on Enterprise Rd, and
Nangkita Rd to Mt Compass were we turned right towards Adelaide for a few miles,
then turned left on Lanacoona Rd, right on Munetta Rd which brought us to Pages
Flat Rd. I rode behind Mark on the CB125 and clocked him at 100kpm on Page’s Flat
Rd!

Turning right and left onto Reservoir Rd we went over Myponga Dam.
Stopping briefly to admire the view at the Carrickalinga Lookout. Never have I seen
the Gulf look so blue!
It was Normanville Bakery for lunch, which included tails of bikes and rides
and some banter. We all decided they had had enough for the day and at about 2pm
we headed home via Myponga and Aldgate.
It was perfect weather and a most enjoyable ride.
