At 10 o’clock, 10 bikes, including a brand new Royal Enfield cruiser, set out for Lobethal,
with our President, Alan Kernich leading. The weather was quite warm but not really unpleasant, especially through the hills where the roads were well shaded by trees. We turned left up Glynburn Rd, to Magill, and Norton Summit Rd, then left at Marble Hill Rd, we wound our way through beautiful hills country till we came back out on the Lobethal Rd, a little early for our first stop, so Alan lead us down Coldstore and Fox Creek Rd and Back up Cudlee Creek Rd, to Lobethal Bakery for refreshments and a chat.
Three bikes headed back to town including our leader. Your reporter was elected to lead the
way to Strathalbyn and lunch. Unable to resist the Roller Coaster on Jungfer Rd, we turned left up Ridge Rd, did the Roller Coaster and then on to Woodside. There left onto Nairne Rd, left again at Military Rd, and on to Nairne. Then Summit Rd, Bald Hills Rd, Hartmann Rd and Peach Rd, to Wistow. At Wistow, seven riders held a short Council of War, decided that we would arrive at Strathalbyn too early for lunch, so we elected Milang, as the lunch stop. Going down Wellington Rd, we saw a semi-trailer tanker that had run of the road and jackknifed. Being responsible road uses, we slowed and passed the accident at a safe speed and the supervising policeman, gave us a thumbs up! Just past Woodchester, we turned onto Meechi Rd which took us to Langhorne Creek, thence to Lake Plains Rd, to Milang. A couple of kilometres down Lake Plains Rd, the temperature dropped noticeably. By the time we reached Milang, there were only four Bikes left, the others having dropped out and turned for home.
We had a very pleasant lunch swapping stories, then set out for Strath. where we stopped at
Collectable Classics, to admire a Triumph TR6, which Kim, one of the remaining riders had just
bought and to drool over the amazing cars and bikes on offer. Then for Meadows and home, with the riders dropping out when convenient for their ride home.
A very enjoyable ride taking in a good variety of roads.
Next Ride: Wednesday 7th February, but don’t forget Club General meeting 23rd January and 28th January the Club BBQ. See you there!
